Referee Clinics
(17 Classroom hours) - Entry Level Course. This certification will allow you to work appropriate level recreational, competitive, youth and adult games as a center referee or assistant referee. There is no minimum age requirement however it is suggested that you are 14 years old or higher. A referee exam of a 100 questions is required with a passing score of 75%. Upon successfully completing the referee-training course you will receive a black referee badge with a current year. Fee $75.00
(9 Classroom hours) - One of two entry-level courses offered. This certification will allow you to referee on recreational youth games U14 and younger only and assistant referee on any competitive game U14 or below. No minimum age required. A recreational referee exam of 50 questions is required with a passing score of 75%. Upon successfully completing the referee-training course you will receive a blue badge with a current year. Fee $58.00
(9 Classroom Hours) - This is an upgrade class for currently certified USSF grade 9 referees or for a referee who has lapse in registration (see registration page on referee program policy on Lapsed registration). Upon completion you will be upgraded to a Grade 8 referee. By upgrading you will be able to work appropriate level recreational and competitive games as a center official. A referee exam of 100 questions is required with a passing score of 75%. Upon successfully completing the referee-training course you will receive a black referee badge with a current year. Fee $58.00
(5 Classroom Hours) – In order to be registered yearly at the current grade level, all Referees must: (a) Complete the required number of hours of in-service training, take their respective current Referee Refresher written examination; (b) Pass the physical fitness test (Referees Grade 8 & 9 excluded); and (c) Pass an annual maintenance assessment (Referees Grade 7, 8 & 9 excluded); and (d) pay the appropriate fees required for your Grade.
This is contiguous to the Intermediate clinic and
will focus on higher level topics for the officials who need additional
training hours to fulfill upgrade requirements. Topics are chosen by the
USSF Instructor but can include ethics training, match management and
tactical thinking development. All referees are welcome and are encouraged to attend.
An Intermediate clinic for experienced referees who want to
upgrade or recertify for the upcoming year. Topics include fitness
training; foul sorting at different levels of play; the Laws of the Game and
assessment criteria. This is open to all referees, instructors and
assessors. The written exam and physical fitness test will also be
conducted if time and weather permit.
An Advanced level training class
which focuses on officiating at the higher levels of the game. Topics
focus on expectations and performance assessment at the highest levels of
officiating; dealing with professional coaches, report writing and
techniques used when dealing with professional players.
State referees, those in the process of advancing to the Grade 6 level,
Emeritus, National referees and candidates are invited to attend.
Instructors and Assessors are also invited. The physical fitness and written
tests are conducted if time and weather permit.
Instructor Clinics
(16 Classroom Hours) – A 16 hour introductory course focusing on presentation methods and skills for the experienced referee who wants to instruct USSF Entry level referee classes. The student is asked to make two presentations using the guidelines taught in class and pass the USSF Grade 7-8 test with a score of 85% or higher. This three day course also focuses on platform skills and effective teaching techniques.
(24 Classroom Hours) – Candidates must first successfully complete the 16-hour Associate Instructor Course and have experience as a referee. Initial registration will be at the Associate Instructor level. Before requesting to take this course you must perform satisfactorily for one year as an Associate Instructor and have approval from the State Director of Instruction. A written exam of 100 questions is required with a passing score of 75%. Fee required.
Assessor Clinics
Experienced officials who possess the necessary technical and 'people' skills are invited to become part of their state’s assessment program. The Associate Assessor Grade 9 is the entry-level assessor course. The following criteria are used at the entry level course. The minimum age is 25. You must be registered as a referee for three years and at some point a Grade 7 or higher in your referee career. You must take a referee exam and score 85%. A minimum of 5 developmental assessments is required in the first year. You may assess Grade 7 & 8 developmental or full assessments on youth matches as directed by the SDA.
Assignor Clinics
(8 Classroom Hours). All Colorado Assignors must complete a training and certification class and become registered with U.S Soccer in order to assign games for clubs and teams affiliated with the U.S Youth Soccer or the U.S Adult Soccer Association. Any individual who successfully completes the Assignor Training Course conducted by a certified Referee Assignor Instructor or Referee Assignor Instructor Trainer may register as an Assignor with U.S. Soccer. The minimum age requirement is 18 years old. No written exam is necessary. A classroom presentation will be required at the end of the course. Fee $55.00. Re-certification is required.
(5 Classroom Hours). At the State Referee Committee's discretion, in-service training may be required every two years in Colorado to improve the quality and consistency of the assigning process in order to continue to assign games for clubs and teams affiliated with the U.S Youth Soccer or the U.S Adult Soccer Association. Fee $TBD.
